SeriesPreview: Cubs @ Giants May 9-11

The roadtrip from hell turns into a history lesson tonight. The boys in blue(14-17 and sinking fast) head right into the eye of hurricane Barry Bonds. Bonds sits on homerun 713. He's one away from tying the Bambino and two from second place on the alltime HR list.

How bad has the Cub offense been in May? They've scored 10 runs in 8 games. Even the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates (hitting .186 as a team for the month) have scored 21 runs in May. The Pirates are second worst in the NL.

Yeah, the Cubs are not this bad. Things will get better. Pierre, Barrett, Walker and Ramirez will hit. Blah, blah, blah. It sound like a broken record.

I was listening to a Dodger game last week and former Cub and Dodger Rick Monday said something very interesting. Monday, now the Dodger color-commentator alongside Charley Steiner, said that he hates to hear the phrase "It's early" because that is an excuse that bad teams make when they are losing in April and early May. He added, the longer you say this the more likely you are to wake up in the middle of the season in the second division. Sound familiar?
